Google Styler

Effective Date: April 27, 2026  ·  Version 8.5

1 Overview

Google Styler ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that lets you customize the appearance of Google's homepage and your new tab page by changing colors and setting a custom background image or video.

Short version: Everything stays on your device. We collect no personal data, send nothing to any server, and have no analytics or tracking of any kind.

2 Data We Collect

The Extension stores the following data exclusively in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local):

Color preferences Background image / video (base64) Brightness & blur settings Custom shortcut links Feature toggle states

This data never leaves your device. It is stored locally by Chrome and is only used to apply your chosen styles the next time you open Google or a new tab.

3 Data We Do Not Collect

The Extension does not collect, store, transmit, or share:

❌ Browsing history ❌ Search queries ❌ IP address ❌ Device identifiers ❌ Cookies ❌ Crash reports ❌ Analytics or usage data ❌ Any personally identifiable information

4 Permissions & Why We Need Them

The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions. Each one is strictly necessary for core functionality:

storage — Saves your color choices, background, and shortcut links locally in your browser.

scripting — Applies your chosen styles to the Google homepage by injecting CSS. Styles are applied locally and nothing is sent externally.

tabs — Checks whether the current active tab is the Google homepage before applying styles. No tab data is recorded or transmitted.

Host permission: google.com — Required to inject styles only on Google's homepage. The Extension does not access any other website.

5 New Tab Page

The Extension replaces Chrome's default new tab page with a custom page that includes a search bar and optional shortcuts. This page:

— Runs entirely locally within your browser
— Makes no external network requests except to load shortcut favicons from google.com/s2/favicons
— Does not track which shortcuts you click or what you search

You can disable the new tab override at any time by removing the Extension from Chrome.

6 Third-Party Services

The Extension does not integrate with, send data to, or load scripts from any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

The only external request made is favicon loading via https://www.google.com/s2/favicons when displaying shortcut icons on the new tab page. This is a standard Google service and is subject to Google's own privacy policy.

7 Children's Privacy

The Extension does not collect any information from any user, including children under the age of 13. There are no accounts, no registration, and no data transmission of any kind.

8 Changes to This Policy

If this Privacy Policy is updated, the new version will be published on the Chrome Web Store listing page. The effective date at the top of this document will be updated accordingly. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

9 Contact

If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy, please reach out via the Chrome Web Store support tab on the Extension's listing page.

🛡️

This extension is designed with privacy as a core principle. No servers. No tracking. No data collection — ever.
